“50 miles?! 50 miles away from here?” She acted like I’d asked her to walk to Somalia over broken glass. That was one of the responses I received after mentioning (several times) on the Matador Sports Network about Matador Athletics’ participation in the annual Holtville Athletic Club Rib Cookoff.

Holtville, California - Tuesday, January 10th 2006, two sons, two fathers, one grandson and one grandfather descended upon the Holtville licensed KGBA FM 100.1 Radio Station to spread the word. That group was comprised of Holtville natives Ernie, Clifford, & Brian Strahm, on a mission to help promote the Rib Cook-Off.

KXO Radio AM1230 - FM 107 has been a major event sponsor of the Rib Cook-Off since 2000. This major Imperial Valley Radio Station initially set the tone and standards by which the Athletic Club judges the successes of each years marketing campaigns.

Holtville, California - 18th Annual Holtville Athletic Club’s Rib Cook-off Extravaganza January 24th, 2008 - Samaha Park, Holtville, CA 10:00am - until all the ribs are gone.
The Holtville Rib Cook-off is open to teams that have been invited. If your team would like to be considered for invitation please contact the club. All of the 2008 teams have earned an automatic invitation to the 2009 event.

Since inception the Holtville Athletic Club’s mission has been to financially assist Imperial Valley’s youth groups and athletic activities through non-profit fund raising efforts. The efforts include member’s personal commitments to the organization as well as seeking corporate assistance. |
